President Obama proclaims October month of "Information Literacy"
As reported on the blog ACRL Insider: In recognition of the 20th anniversary of the National Forum on Information Literacy, President Obama issued a proclamation declaring October 2009 as National Information Literacy Awareness Month. The proclamation states:
The full proclamation is available on the White House website. The National Forum on Information Literacy was founded in 1989 by ACRL Past President Patricia Breivik and will celebrate it’s anniversary on October 15 and 16 in Washington, DC.
This month, we dedicate ourselves to increasing information literacy awareness
so that all citizens understand its vital importance. An informed and educated
citizenry is essential to the functioning of our modern democratic society, and
I encourage educational and community institutions across the country to help
Americans find and evaluate the information they seek, in all its forms.

It's annual meeting time, again!
Greetings to all STSJLA members, supporters and friends! Once again, we are ready to gather for this year's membership meeting this Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the BCB Middle School Library/Media center. Please join your fellow librarians in casting votes for the upcoming year's Board of Directors; but be sure that your annual dues ($25) are paid prior to meeting time.
Also, we will be sharing reactions about the recent Strength Through Collaboration Conference and getting a preview of "STSJLA 2.0". Finally, you get to spend some more quality time with fellow librarians, so don't miss it!
To arrange for dues payment or for more information, contact us at STSJLA [at] gmail [dot] com. See you on Saturday!!

Greetings from Guadeloupe!
"Bonjour!" to member information professionals, and friends--coming all the way from "Gwada"! Four Board members and one general member are all here attending the Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries' (ACURIL) 39th annual conference.
There is plenty here to see, learn and do, and we look forward to sharing the wealth upon return! Au revoir!
